Mr. Blue brings back old-style class at Zoute Grand Prix

Zoute Grand Prix is a wondrous international event with cars as the center of attention. And this year, it’s even better, as Mr. Blue was asked to dress the judges.

If you have been following me for a while, you know I have a taste for the finer things in life. Great clothes, good food, art, design and cars: I appreciate them greatly. So, naturally, Belgium’s famous Zoute Grand Prix, one of world’s most prestigious old-timer events, fits right up my alley. I was massively honored when the organization contacted me for a collaboration for the upcoming Grand Prix that will be take place from the 7th till the 10th of October. Apparently, the quality of my Mr. Blue service had reached the organization and they were impressed with my international endeavors. It was a match!

Inspired by The Avengers

As a ‘Gold Partner’ of the Zoute Grand Prix, Mr. Blue was asked to dress the judges: international car specialists that will play an important role in the auctioning of cars at the event. Whilst brainstorming with the organization on the look and feel of these suits, I found out something fun: the owners are massive fans of John Steed, the central protagonist in the 1960s British spy series The Avengers. In these series, Steed was known for his Savvy Row suit: a three-piece suit with a waistcoat with six buttons in vintage British style. As I started sketching, I came up with suits that are inspired by John Steed’s appearance, including a navy tie with polka dots. To top it off, the judges will wear a bowler hat, which moreover seems very fitting for the main theme of this year’s edition of Zoute Grand Prix: Magritte.

Bespoke only

The design for the judges’ suits turned out to be an homage to not only the character Steed, but also the era he was a part of: the fantastic and very fashionable sixties and seventies. Right now, I’m still busy trying to find the best fabrics and meeting all the judges in and outside of Belgium. It’s very important for me to get their measurements in person so that I can create the most comfortable, fantastic looking suit for them. In the end, that is what Mr. Blue is all about.

Merchandising and so much more

Next to the bespoke suits for the judges, Mr. Blue also has the honor of creating the smoking suits for the organization’s staff for the gala dinner on October 9th. We also designed the typical red Zoute Grand Prix bodywarmers. And if that wasn’t enough already, visitors will be able to buy merchandising that we created at the event. Will you be visiting Zoute Grand Prix? Come and say hi: you will be able to find Mr. Blue stands in various spots, for example: at the Prado, Cwart and Golf, that will for sure catch your attention. We are thrilled to be a part of this and are looking forward to seeing you there.

Until next time,
Your tailor
